/ About the project
I had the opportunity to volunteer as a graphic designer for Crisis Centre, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people in crisis, preventing suicides, and providing support to those affected. My main tasks included updating their brochure with important information and program details, as well as creating content for their social media platforms to enhance their online presence for both adult and youth programs.
Addressing Design Issues and Sensitivity
Upon reviewing their existing design materials, I noticed that their branding was inconsistent in terms of colors, image contrast, layout, fonts, and alignment. In addition to these design challenges, I had to approach the sensitive topic with great care. I needed to ensure that everything I created was respectful and would not offend anyone.
Enriching Experiences and Skill Development
Volunteering at Crisis Centre proved to be an enriching experience for me. Through my visual creations, I aimed to convey hope and support to those in need. This opportunity also allowed me to enhance my design skills significantly. Knowing that my work was making a positive impact on individuals and communities during difficult times was truly rewarding.
Effective Communication and Exceeding Expectations
Working collaboratively with others on creative projects taught me the importance of effective communication. I became more adept at showcasing my work both online and in person. Additionally, I learned the value of adhering to schedules and going above and beyond what was expected of me. These efforts fostered a strong bond between myself and the Crisis Centre, and we both gained a great deal from this experience. As a result, we look forward to collaborating again in the future.
